I graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia with a BSc in Computer Science and worked at a telecommunications company briefly before going to London for my postgraduate studies. After spending a year reading for an MSc in Data Communication Networks and Distributed Systems degree at University College London, I was mad enough to stay on for PhD. I enjoyed the 4 years I spent at the Computer Science Department, where I was taught the art of critical analysis (read: criticise (mercilessly) any work which does not agree with your own) ;-). I have become rather absent minded since I left UCL, and I suspect that to be a side effect of the Permanent head Damage thingy 8-). While in London, I developed a love for classical music. My favourite pieces have to be Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, Winter from Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Beethovan's Piano Concerto No. 3. Lovely pieces! Each time they were played on Classic FM, I simply had to stop what I was doing, and listened (sigh!). You can actually listen to Classic FM live over the Internet - the wonders of technology..... I love to read and I consider finishing two (very) thick volumes of "Tale of Genji" (phew!) to be the greatest feat so far. If you like to read classic novels, you have to check out classic-novels.com. Their subscription service allows you to subscribe to a novel, and they email it to you daily in small chunks that you can read in 5 minutes. Best of all, this service is free! Cool, isn't it? If you're into handcrafts, DIY, or self-improvement, checkout this ebook website. My latest obsession is Aikido, which I find to be an effective way to alleviate stress and let off some steam. This is one video you must watch. Dr. Randy Pausch, who is dying of cancer, talks about achieving childhood dreams. The talk is not about death, it's about life. If you like the video, buy his book, "The Last Lecture". It moved me to tears. The website is here. The video is about 1 hour 15 minutes. If you don't have time now, make time for it later.
The next time you tell yourself you can't do something, watch this video and kick yourself. The limit of your capability is only in your mind.
